Hi Argon, I have a buffalo boiler, I'm considering a fb like that. How do you actually get the dome shape that keeps the crap from getting under the fb? Since the buffalo element is in the centre I can't really have anything sitting tight to the centre but that looks like it'd work fine once the di...

For what it's worth, I did my first double batch BIAB in a 70L SS pot a couple of weeks back (dry hopped last night) and i used a SS 2mm perforated false bottom and pickup tube in the kettle. Now, i usually brew with my pumped single tier 3V system and have the SS perforated FB in the kettle as a ho...

Hmmm, I mash in at 68c, lag for 60 mins, then use a pulley system to slightly raise the bag, bring the wort to 76 degrees and leave for 15 mins without lagging again. Am I doing it wrong? Should I mash for 90 mins? The first part is fine... ie mash at 68°C for 60min. But for the mashout, just apply...

SMM (S-Methylmethionine) is an amino acid, which is formed during the germination and kilning process of malting barley, which is the precursor to DMS. It's present in high volumes in lighter kilned malts such as Pilsner malt. DMS (Dimethyl sulfide)is a compound that has a taste and aroma some descr...

I installed a weldless thermo in my mashtun/kettle and I've never had it catch on the bag. I installed it under the level of the cake rack that sits on the bottom of the pot. This way the bag sits on the cake rack and the thermo is below that, never causing an issue. A couple of thing to consider wi...

+1 for the 90 min boil at least. With all that Pilsner malt in there you want to drive off as much SMM as possible. Make sure you get a decent vigorous boil. I've done the LCBA clone a couple of times and it's a cracker. I was in Fremantle recently and the LCBA was a stand out at the brewery. Beauti...

I've got a full virgin keg of the brew sitting in my kegerator at the moment, unmolested for the last two weeks  So you will be attending my brew day Saturday week won't you. :yum: yes i will... but unfortunately will be driving home  For those of you who use hop socks, how long do you...

bit of an epic bump and I'm a noob so please be gentle. Looking at doing my first BIAB this weekend and am reading up on it as much as I can. I too got diverted from the thread on lifting the bag to this one! My understanding is that the mashout helps you to get the best out of the grains. Warming ...

Thanks to Argon's method - which I attribute this to - at the Brisbane Amateur Beer Brewers American Ales mini comp last night, my American Pale Ale came third in the comp  Places were one and two to American IPAs and around 20 - 23 APA's got entered so that would make my entry #1 in the AP...

I've given up using the hop sock... i think the last batch i did came out a little muted, at least based on the amount of hops that went in. I like the idea of the loose hop bag though... even using my BIAB bag as a "sock". I'm doing a triple batch bo pils 100% saaz soon, which requires over 400g o...

Right !! This was going to be a first BIAB Brewday extravaganza. I have taken loads of photos and have taken notes all the way through the process. However, it's all gone a bit Pete Tong !!! None of the hydrometer readings make sense. Let me start from the beginning and talk you helpfull individual...

I'd be getting myself a medium pressure adjustable reg for that 4 burner... would make life a little easier. Most 4 rings will work fine if you've got the pressure.

I did however upgrade to a Rambo that gets to temp in a shot... couldn't be easier... highly recommended.
