I managed to pick up 2 x silvers & 1 bronze out of 4 beers. So pretty happy with that, gold still alluded me by less than a point (again)

Pale ale - Silver
Black IPA - Silver
IPA - Bronze
Aussie lager - dud (I knew this one was a dud, but I had paid the $20 to enter it)

do you usually hit your OG when making higher volume beers like this? Im pretty much spot on when brewing beers up to about 1.055 but if I aim for any higher than that I usually fall short. Ive always found that my efficiency drops away the higher the OG and I have to compensate by adding more grain...

My brew pot has a built in heat chamber underneath with a flue that runs up the side of the pot. This makes it much more efficient than just running under a standard pot, but due to the fact that the pot is 114L and usually a boil starts with about 60 to 70L of wort I only get about 3 ish brews out ...

   It was funny Aces ;). But you two missed a bloody great Feral beer. The Tusk was astounding!!! Thanks for the detailed reply PP, No worries bundy and your thinking is on the right track. I really don't see how you could have salvaged things any better than you did. Funny you menti...

Wash your mouth out...and not with that horrible substance you call wheat beer. Pistol Patch and I are completely against this substance although apparently in some beer circles it is considered a real beer, but then again so is brett beer. My brother is named brett, he doesn't drink beer but then h...

Gday Bundy, Don't sweat it, the beer might turn out much better than what you think. Also just because the beer started off at 1040 instead of 1050, it might also ferment out lower by a few points so the ABV will equal out a little bit. I never bother with protein rests and I don't think you really ...

Hi Simon, It seems that CTZ is really just any of Columbus, Tomahawk or Zeus hops. Apparently all the same hop with different names or close enough that it doesn't matter. Meant to be good bittering hops. Hope that helps. Oh yeah, good point Odymate, I forgot about that, so you can order any of the...

I just used these hops as they were the ones I had in stocks and I play with different hops each time to what I can get out of it. How you have the malt part worked out you can play around with the hop schedule to find something you like. Flowers aren't necessarily better than pellets, it would be n...

Hi, i hoped to give this one a go, any chance please you could give a bit more specific on the grain types, the malt miller has too much choice, also are the hops flowers or pellets? Gday Simon, You should be able to order all this or something similar. If your in America the pale ale malt may be c...

Welcome to the forum Craig... don't worry the first brew is always the scariest. As PP said, 72 degrees sounds too high. You should probably be closer to 68 or 69. Don't bother trying to use the thermostat to keep the temperature stable, it fluctuates and just wont work. Make sure you get your strik...

I always struggle when trying to hit 1070 no matter what biabacus or any other program says I always end up with around 1060 to 1064. I had just written it off as an efficiency thing with higher gravity beers in biab. I don't brew over 1060 very often so I don't really worry about it
