Strike Temperature Problems

With 2 BIAB brews under my belt. A American Hefe (which is in the keg force carbing now) and a Honey Brown Ale, that is in ferm cooler, i've noticed one thing. On my rig, if I use one of the calcs for strike water temp, I'm to high, basically when I add and stir my grain i am not losing that much he...

The Crystal will darken it up some...I just brewed a Hefe last week with 5lb 2Row 5lb Wheat Malt, and my proboil gravity was 1.050. I did not sparge, i did a 60 min mash, then brought temp up to 170* then let it mash out for 10 min. The color was very light. FG was 1.053....So your gravity should be...

NO!!! Do not do that The Bayou Classic pot is very thin!!! You will catch hell maintaining a mash temp! On a 90* day I lost 1-2* in a 60 min mash with my keg with a towel over the top of it Like this: http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l282/whitecl0ver/DSCF2401.jpg In the winter, I will will need som...

Here is my set up.... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l282/whitecl0ver/DSCF2400.jpg As you can see I did not just cut the 'top' of the keg out, I actually cut the whole top off. What this does is open the mouth of the keg up WAAAY further then just cutting the 'lid' off. I actually fit a 42 qt tur...

Now in FL we can carry guns too...I have a concealed weapons permit and carry a .380, or .45acp every day...
Nothing wrong with guns...problem is when uneducated people get guns...trouble ensues and makes us [gun owners] all look like nut jobs.

Yeah, I feel sorry for the guys in Alabama. But those are THEIR elected officials. Most of which are on 3rd and 4th terms, so the people are voting that kind of incompetence into office, what does that say about the people of Alabama (not every one, just the majority). I mean, Alabama is so far behi...

I have entered some competitions here in the states...I came in 3rd for Best of 2010 in my LHBC (there were 20 beers), and in the Coconut Cup in Miami FL (BJCP) I didn't place but was given a 38. Not bad for my first entrys (it was the same beer in both contests).

Yeah I've been using Hopville for awhile (brewprint is a rip off as far as I can tell) but Hopville always seems to wig out in Firefox. Hmmm, works fine here (FF 3.x/Kubuntu). It works fine for me too as long as I dont make any changes....If I put 5lbs of 2 Row when I meant to put 6lbs, and I click...

Yeah it works out for the most part. There is enough to kick off my next batch. Still have to decide what it will be. Currently I have an Irish Red on Tap, a Blueberry Pale Ale (force carbing, I am taking it to a family reunion on Saturday) Then a Belgian Triple (on top of the Fermentation fridge), ...

Wow! Knock out a few more batches if it keeps happening, wow thats awesome. But in theory shouldn't 100% be the best you can get? I mean you can't extract more sugar then there actually is....

Brew day at Excessive HoppYness Brewing..... This was my first "BIAB" All-grain batch. Everything went expected, My brew house effeminacy came out to 87%...I was shocked. My Pre-Boil gravity was 1.050 and post boil, I was at 1.053. Enjoy the pics. Pre-Heating the mash bag. http://i99.photobucket.com...

Yeah we have worked very hard to build the bar we have. My wife and I both have fun out there. Also I typically make enough in my "tip the brewer" jar to pay for the next batch. So it's win win...My friends and family get to try beers they have never had, and I get to brew them! Thanks for the kind ...
