      Hi Folks, I have a couple of questions;
      1/How many grams per liter powdered corn sugar would you recommend for a pale ale to make it similar to say a fat yak ?
      2/How many grams per liter powdered corn sugar would you recommend for a oatmeal stout that will have heaps of body?
      3/What are the advantages of fermenting first in a primary and then a secondary rather than just the one container?
      4/Is there any difference in carbonating in PET bottles or glass bottles?

   2. working out my efficiency?

      Hi Folks,
      did my second brew yesterday, All went well, much easier during the day ! Today I was fiddling with the figures trying to work out the efficiency, I am using the free Qbrew software to keep records etc.and found that if I know the volume and change the efficiency figure in the preferences until the OG it predicts matches the OG I measured i can get the efficiency. If I put in the post mash volume is that my mash efficiency? likewise if I put n my volume into the fermenter is that the...

      Hi Hashie, thanks for the swift reply, so I should use my efficiency post boil while Im mucking around with recipes on the software then?
      i.e. Size =29 L ,at 1.060 in the above case.
      I will start another topic on trub,but what is a cube? Don't think people use them over here,I drain into my fermenter then 7-10 later bottle from there.

   3. How long can I store crushed grains??

      Hi Folks,
      I've been looking at some stout recipes lately and many of them have small amounts (200g-400g) of some grains, I can only buy grains by the Kg and have no problem saving some for a later brew, but not having a mill I get them crushed at the shop.How long will they last crushed? and should I store spare grains and hops in the fridge?

      Hi Everyone, Bout to try out my first BIAB brew, I have read that mash pH is important to enzyme activity in the mash,does everyone test for it / worry about it ? Will the addition of the grain lower the ph of the mash, and by how much?( my water is around pH 7) :scratch:
      I have read that the pH can be reduced by the addition of lactic acid but none of the suppliers over here (NZ) seem to sell it. Although citric and tartaric acids are in the supermarket, will they have to much taste to be...

      Mine is a 40l Crown Urn with a 2400W concealed element, get a boil off rate of 3.3-3.5 litres per hour.
      
      My urn is lagged with a camping mat to reduce heat losses and you may also try with the lid half on during boiling. Don't have the lid on full as nasties need to escape but half is OK.
