      Got a good few BIAB's completed. At the end of the boil I always have trouble getting clear wort in to the cube. I NO chill. I have tried various ways using my large spoon to rotate the wort and create a good whirlpool but always seem to extract hot break and other undesirables in to the cube.
      
      Could someone please explain the whirlpool process and when it should be completed post boil.

      Well, I gave it a go as instructed above, but the results where not brilliant. Although I finally got more clearer beer in to my fermenter (19ltrs), from my cube, which was a very good result for me. Will try again during my next brew. Thanks for all the above advice.

   2. Software Variety.

      I did a brew today and used The Calculator , Brewmate and Ian H's designer. I was quite amased as the volumes came out pretty much cock on over the 3 different softwares, the gravity was correct and the brew length although calculated in different ways came out pretty much cock on too, over the 3 varients. I have not embarked yet on efficiency suffice to say it is really good to brew fine drinkable beer in to a keg and be proud! Efficiency can come latter.

      I just checked my start of boil gravity with pipette and straight off my dipstick.No difference to my eye through the refrac.Waiting for the wort to cool to check the hydro.BTW this is just an exercise on my part to keep PP from spending too much time on that biabacus thingy. :lol:

   5. To Stir or not to Stir? during the mash.

      What is the general consensus on stirring during the mash process? I did a brew today (BIAB) and stirred once at 30mins of a 60 min mash.

      On my fist 3 batches I've misured a temperature loss of 2° C every 20 mins, so every 20 mins I stir and turn on the burner to raise the temp a couple of degrees. I brew in my kitchen with a non insulated alluminium pot and about 21 lts of water.

      Those paint stirrers are the best mash paddles I have come across for any sort of all-grain brewer. Little effort required to jiggle it up and down whilst still giving excellent movement and mixing :thumbs:.

   7. Gravity, not newton!

      Just done a BIAB brew with 4.9 kg of grain. Mashed for 60 mins, no dough balls at 66deg C.
      
      Water volumes where absolutely right using Beermate and the Calculator. Very pleased.
      
      After the mash, SG was lower than it should have been. After the boil I made some ground.
      
      I squeezed the grain bag to buggery, and the hop bag which was the grain bag after washing.
      
      SG pre boil was low, I just wonder why?
      
      When the new BIABbacus is ready I reckon it will be the answer to the maidens prayer.

      Currently I measure SG with an hydrometer. Next step I think will be to get a refractometer.
      
      I had the batch set at 22 Ltrs, which I presume is in to the fermenter. Judging by other brews I get about 1.5 to 2 Ltrs remaining in the cube. I only want 19 Ltrs for my keg. So there is ltr or so leeway.
