      Will I be horribly shunned if I go the Braumeister route?
      I believe it was what got this whole BIAB thing started wasn't it Pat?
      I have always struggled with mash temps, thermometers and subzero ambient temps,and decided that I could afford the system and I like the control offered by it.
      In the years to come it would make brewing a much easier option for me.I can see no hindrance to my association here and will probably still break out the bag and burner in the summer or if I should happen...

      I am trying to settle into one consistant dry hopping regimen.
      Can anyone everyone recommend their favorite?
      I am talking,when,where( fermentor,keg),clearing methods etc.
      I would say that clearing is my biggest issue,it seems to be adding weeks to my turnaround,even when using pellets in a sack.
      I know BobBrews has a lot of practice in this and I am sure others will be able to chime in with some coherent advice! :lol:

      Dry hopping can bring a real kick in the nose for some lackluster beers. Another gun in your brewing arsenal. It's just a tool to use while building a beer.
      
      Thanks Bob, it certainly was with this beer, I must find someone that's had the CraftBrewer Nelson Summer Ale *cough* Pistol *cough* to find out how it ideally should taste. Next time I'm in Brisvegas I'll head to the CB pub instead of the German club, it won't be easy ignoring those pork knuckles and Four Pines Kolsch on tap,...

      Well Bob, I brewed 46 litres of what was supposed to be a Irish Strong Ale. My OG was 1068 though so I think I fell a little short of what the style calls for. All well.
      
      I took about 20 litres of that and eised (iced?) it down to about 10 litres. Its pretty tasty already. I'm going to let it age for a while then I'll bottle everything up.

      Lylo you poor man! My sympathies too you. We have had decent Winters here the last twenty years. This year we are going back to the old cold days. We are growing accustomed to the milder Winters. But this early cold snap is a shock to the system. Keep close to the Braumeister today!

      I know the videos, i wached the on youtibe before. I have to wait until i go to a store to see woth my own eyes what it says on the cubes. The online store just don't have enough info...

      I bought a cube, is a 20 liter canister, with the HPDE symbol on the bottom (no number though...i guess is optional).
      1 - The walls doesn't feel to thick, could that be a problem?
      2 - Also, the cap doesn't say what plastic is made of... should i be concerned, or is self explanatory that is the same...

      Having nothing to worry about last nght I got fussing around the drawers of my brew room and decided to focus on thermometers.Over the space of 25 years of extract brewing I ended up with 3 glass thermometers.( I have never broken one!)When I started gearing up for BIAB I also bought a digital eclectric probe type.

      I mash out at around 168-170*F, but Ive don't think ive heard heard of a mash approaching 170*F. Typical mashes are around 148-156 I think. I hope that your thermometer is not that far off!

      I use FireFox and this website was slow on it too! All the other websites worked just fine for me. It was just biabrewer.info that was REALLY slow. so I think that it was just the web hosting company that was having trouble? I used java on all those sites and it worked fine? :thumbs:

      I decided to maybe try to harvest some of my homegrown hops this year.I am not sure what I have,I think Fuggles,cluster,and cascade.However the are grown more as a privacy screen that a beer additive.
      Anyway last weekend I picked them and figured I would just freeze them in ziplocks.My plan was to try some generic pale ale recipe and just start pitching handfuls in every time I go by the kettle.Maybe 250 grams total. :think:

       With all the experienced BIABers on site why don't we have a large library of BIAB ready recipes? I know with mine that I really haven't had any knowledgeable input into how good they are or aren't.I likeem and I drinkem.
       However I am sure that many of the grizzled veterans on this forum are hoarding away a lot of old family recipes that we could easily download and use with very little to no scaling.I would even venture a guess that I wouldn't even need to look elsewhere for inspiration!

       I wrote the calculator quite a few years ago and had hoped it would disappear quite quickly. Trying to make it disappear has turned into a major exercise :) .
       
       I'm working on a temporary fix to the calculator now as I can't bear to see it up there for another 6 months :smoke:.

       Does anyone know of a good chart for substituting one malt for another.I keep a fair collection of specialty malts on hand as I am at least an hour from a LHBS,however I routinely bypass an interesting recipe because I don't have a particular grain.I also am quite sure that I have overlaps between some cara type malts and crystal types,ie: I think honey malt is a very close sub for melanoidan(or so I think I read)yet I have each on hand..

       I have shown, without testing proof, that in full volume mashing the mineral content of the water is less important than if you were to have a more traditional L:G ratio. I wouldn't say water is more or less important with BIAB vs. 3V. Rather, I think they're just different and it should be understood, even if on a very basic level.

       Okay,yesterday I brewed my second attempt at Brewer Petes Wolverhampton Mild.This time I added 20Gr Fuggles and 20Gr Northern Brewer into my hop spider as soon as I lit the flame after mashout.I left this in for the full 90 min.boil.
       Before I racked to my cube I tossed in a hop bag of 10Gr each of the same.
       Have I done all/any of these procedures properly and how are they likely to differ from say a 60/15/0 schedule?

       This may seem a little backward to some but my problem here in Canada is that when winter comes my brewery actually gets warmer!
       This is because it is located in my mechanical room,where all of the in-floor heat pipes converge.

       HaHa. I think I screwed up big.I was sure I had read of some people dry hopping directly into the keg.A couple of weeks ago I kegged a Fat Tire clone
       and thought I would give this idea a try and tossed 15g of Cascade in on top.Yesterday I tried a glass and it tasted real good,just young.However it looked like the water in my friends aquarium.Will this ever clear?

       I don't dry hop in the keg. It works if you drink it quick enough and it doesn't clog the out valve but if you leave it with whole hops floating in there they will (Decay?) or whatever and go way beyond grassy into muck! If you really love a fresh hop smell then buy a whole house filter and make one of these. They have different names (Randall) but the idea is the same fresh hop aroma with the convenience of not having them decay in the keg and being able to replace with different types of...

       I am planning to do some SMaSH brews soon and have been wondering how you style them.As in,is it an ale,lager?Is based on the fermentation method?Yeast strain?How you hold your mouth when pouring?
       I am mostly an Ale guy.I don't know why.If you some beer in my mouth I couldn't tell you if it is an ale ar lager.Put 10 unmarked lagers and 10 unmarked ales on the table and I will like the ales the best. :dunno: :drink:
