   1. carbonator cap question

      I have recently come across the carbonator cap for carbonating plastic bottles. Does anyone know if these fit on the tap a draft bottles. I believe they are 6 liter bottles but the opening is slightly larger than a standard two liter bottle. I did some google searching but found only answers saying it fits on two liters.

      tap a draft is the size like on large gallon jugs of apple cider and things.. over 38mm threads. it only works on 1L, 2L, 3L, and all the various water bottle sizes including the brown plastic beer bottles.

   2. First BIAB and it's great so far!

      I brewed the nutcastle recipe from the brewing classic styles book last weekend. I just put it in the keg and had a little taste and it was right on! I am officially hooked on the BIAB technique! The only problem I had with the technique was during the mash...the temp fluctuated alot during the 90 minutes. I did a mini mash since I'm now doing smaller scale recipes around 2-3 gallons. All in all it was a good experience and don't plan on switching back any time soon.

      I'd play around with it and see what works best for your oven, but I'm guessing either would work. If you planned on leaving it on the whole mash, one thing to look into is how closely your oven maintains temperature. If it varies, + or - 5 F that could really change your mash. I'd try setting the oven a few degrees lower than your target mash temperature. My guess is you'd only loose a degree or two at most over the 90 min.

   3. Anyone use the thermowell for accurate temp readings?

      I have always used a temp controller (I think mine is made by Johnson controllers). Anyway I have always just taped my sensor to the side of the carboy and it seems to read pretty accurate to the fermentation temps as long as I wrap it with a blanket to prevent it from readin the ambien air. I can't decide if I want to invest the money in a thermowell. I know people have made them for cheap but I don't have the tools or skill to do the soldering.
