Who has a BIABacus for Hop Hog (Aces High?)

Post #1 made 9 years ago
Hi guys,

Plenty of historical chatter on the forum about a hop hog clone, particularly Aces High and PP. Would love a copy as it's my favourite beer atm. If it's a secret recipe I'd be happy with a copy via PM and would be happy not to share it, it will just save me $70ish a carton of 16...also the amount of browny points from SWMBO would be off the scale as she loves it too.

No rush, it would be an after Christmas brew, otherwise I'll make a BIABacus based on other forum versions and try to get close.

Cheers.

Thanks mate, I was particularly interested in Aces High's version as it was apparently really good.. if I strike out then I'll check out some other versions and make a BIABacus..

If that lazy bugger Aces ( :) ) doesn't reply here in the next day or so nicko, I will dig through my files (and his emails) and see if I can come up with something for you ;).

Misc Bill

----------------

Single step Infusion at 66°C for 90 Minutes.

Fermented at 17°C with Wyeast 1272 - American Ale II

Also, received the following from TWOC brew supplies and put it into BIABacus (see below).

I wrote a quick text/note to myself after speaking to one of the guys at Feral but can't seem to find it now. The above recipes will get you started and might even match the occasional batch of Hop Hog. (I could wrote on this for hours but basically, the hops used and amounts used change regularly in a brewery because the supply and storage conditions are not constant.

Don't try to imitate exactly as you will always be disappointed. The brewers themselves cannot do it from batch to batch. Focus instead on what you find 'Wow' about that beer and focus on that. Lots of American hop flavour excite you? Focus on that and brew it.

My keyboard/computer is starting to play up and still would like to answer a few more questions so...

:peace:
PP

P.S. Sorry mate, my computer has gone to hell so can't give you the BIABacus file. I can tell you that Windows 8.0/1 is the crappest and most time-wasting software ever!!!!!!

Thanks Pat,

There's a few different versions on the web, so I'll have a look at them all and might have a crack at my own. Galaxy is the only hop I can taste/smell for sure, but I'm still fairly new to hops, although my freezer is starting to get pretty full!

Cheers mate.

nicko, on Xmas Eve, I bought a $20 bottle (750ml) of beer from Deschutes brewery (Chasin' Freshies) that was brewed solely with Mozaic hops (my bottle did not mention Bravo as it does in the link). Three of us tasted it who know Feral Sly Fox and Hop Hog well. Mozaic definitely plays a big part in Sly Fox and. I believe, a considerable part in Hop Hog. I'm buying some of that, for sure!

Just had a pint of the limited release, Stone and Wood Garden Ale which is 3.8%ABV and, "both kettle and dry hopped with Ella..." I'll get some more of this and take it around to my mates as this too reminds me totally of SlyFox and Hop Hog. Ella is an Australian hop and so it would make more sense for it to have played a part in these beers.
