I may be able to get my hands on a cheap 3 ring burner. Will it be grunty enough for doing a full size (20-23L) BIAB?

I reckon it will, I'm using a 4 ring burner and only need 2 rings to maintain a good rolling boil of 32 litres.
With all 4 rings firing it goes from mashout (77c) to boil in 10 minutes.
So 3 will be heaps, will just take a few extra minutes to get there.

I use a domestic gas stovetop for my 19 stockpot, slow but gets there, over half an hour from bag lift to boil. I can just straddle the pot over a large and a small burner, speeds it up quite a lot. Actually, a $20 gas camping stove from big double ewe is quite effective too, don't underestimate them, I'll be using one today, for decoction but I also heat sparge water or caramelise wort when the kettle or stove are busy. Dunno how it would go boiling the full stockpot, but I wouldn't be surprised if it managed to pull it off (I'll look the specs up today when I get it out). An alternative is the portable BBQ, which is handy as far as spousie is concerned as it can be done outside the kitchen.
So, to answer your question Aaron, umm, I'm not sure! But as hashie says, it should be fine and I'm inclined to agree.

Hey Aaron, i use the standard 3 ring burner that i bought from the camping shop, (the cast iron green one). My water in the kettle is 33 litres (for my last (only) 2 batches). It takes me about 20 mins to get up to mash temp from ambient, and then ater the mash it takes another 15-20 minutes to get to the rolling boil, i then turn off the middle burner and turn the reg right down and i get a nice rolling boil. I use a standard low pressure barbie reg and havent had a drama
Id say go for it!

I use a standard BBQ reg. I don't like messing with things like gas.
