I use a silicone hose attached to my valve. It is safe and avoids a lot of splashing which you don't want at this point. Just be very careful of the sanitation of the valve or PP will be all over both of us. :argh:

Tsar,,

As lylo indicated above. You should avoid "Hot side aeration". Look at the second last picture at the link below. http://www.stempski.com/biab.php I did this a few years ago but it is still relevant. :salute:

here is a link to the tubing I use. They have different sizes and it's cheap. Not clear tubing!

Use your tap, but don't let PP know about it. :nup:

EDIT: Seriously though, a tap or valve can get gunked up, unless you have a 3-piece that you can break down for cleaning.

Easy, simple and no chance of HSA.
Hashie, how do you start a syphon (with your mouth?) and have you ever tied some voile around your silicone hose to strain?

I bumped Yeasty's thread; http://biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=1108#p14731" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , he is using it to syphon / strain when it is chilled, BUT can't you use it to syphon when hot also? Can't you also cover the manifold with a voile bag and strain it from pellet hops?, like pictured here. I had no need to vorlauf when I used my copper manifold in my MLT.

Is it safe to use silicone hose in boil temperature?
'Cause if it is, if we dip all the hose in the liquid, the hose will be full, then we close the hose and put it in the cube, and then open it, and the siphon will begin, I think...

Hope you understand my bad english :P

Yeah tsar that work. I have used the methocd before, but I highly recommend that you give it a practise run first, with cold water and the actual vessels you will be using.
As BobBrew is fond of saying"don't ask how I know"

Start the siphon with my mouth yes. I know people say how dangerous that is etc. but silicone hose is somewhat see through, it is certainly not opaque. I can see the liquid as it rises up the tube, yes rises, I wouldn't do it where my face was lower than the top of the kettle for obvious safety reasons. Once the hose is all but full, I quickly put it into the cube and let the siphon happen.

I haven't tried putting voile as a strainer, I just allow whatever is picked up to go into the cube where it will settle out.

I use it when hot and filling a cube as well. I start the syphon with a spare piece of tubing attached to a small inline tap, which I pull off once the wort is up and over the pot lip. I then fill a 2L jug a few times and recirculate, I then add another piece of tube that reaches the bottom of the cube and fill as normal.

I use a 1m length of silicone hose attached to the ball valve on my keggle to transfer to the cube. The valve itself is capable of being fully disassembled and is cleaned thoroughly after every brew day
