Scaling Miscellaneous Ingredients

Post #1 made 9 years ago
I was setting up Biabacus for a brew with some miscellaneous ingredients and noticed that the amounts seemed off. I'm making a smaller batch (3 gallons) than the original recipe was meant for (5 gallons).

However, when I enter the original amounts in the Miscellaneous section the amounts suggested under the WYWU section for my smaller batch size are larger.

Here is one example:
Bittersweet Choc 2.5 Boil 15 Flavor
For this entry I get 3.77 under WYWU.

I'll post the file if need be, but for all the additions I put in the Miscellaneous section the WYWU is higher than the amount I enter. Am I doing something wrong?

I see what you mean in Section F but am not well-versed enough in the art of the BIABacus to give a competent answer. Sit tight and we'll have somebody get you an answer asap.

xfumbler, thank you .

That is definitely an error. I've just checked the latest unpublished version and it is fixed there - phew! (I hate seeing something obvious missed :nup:.)

To get you by, what you need to do is get the original ingredient weight/volume and multiply it by the VAW in Section K and then divide it by the original VAW in Section D.

So, for Bittersweet Choc, it will be...

2.5*12.61/19=1.66

BIABacus PR1.3T is reversing the VAW's. I do remember problems fighting with this formula (well, that whole section actually) which, in PR 1.3T, looks like this... =IF(AND(ISNUMBER(AX133),ISNUMBER($BG$86),ISNUMBER($CQ$45)),AX133*($BG$86/$CQ$45),"N/A")

Not sure how that one slipped through the cracks .

Top job on finding it and rest-assured it has been fixed in later relaeases which, begs to mind the question...

Should BIABrewer.info release PR 1.3ZZZ now?

I should really look into excel more, this syntax looks very similar to the programming I do at work (FANUC Macro-B).

That's excel? I had just assumed that PP's cat was walking across his keyboard again!

Lol!

I can't believe I actually buggered that formula up (or that none of us spotted it before - we probably did, expecting PR 1.3U would be released a few weeks after T.) It's actually one of the easiest formulas in the BIABacus...

There are some that are about eight lines long. For example, imagine this but eight times longer...

=IF(OR(OR(AW98="DH",AW98="DR"),AND(ISNUMBER(BD98),BD98=0)),(1-EXP(1)^(-0.04*0.001))/4.15,IF(BD98>0,(1-EXP(1)^(-0.04*BD98))/4.15,IF(BD98="",IF(T98=0,(1-EXP(1)^(-0.04*0.001))/4.15,(1-EXP(1)^(-0.04*T98))/4.15))))

After that, it gets even more complex as that "eight line" formula will actually be a precedent (sometimes in just a small way) to a very important number.

Here is one small example...

The screenshot below shows all the things that the BIABacus has to look for before it can print the Expected OG in Section O. (And, that really is one of the simpler hidden calculations :smoke:).
