Had so much fun brewing and watching the process and changes that the beer goes through. Didn't hit my mash target temp. Was actually really low at 125. But was my first time learning where my strike temp should be and what my equipments efficiency is. My target was 1.072 OG and I only achieved 1.050. So I did another batch a couple days ago and had my grain milled twice and increased my strike temp and was able to start at 155 and ended up at 152 at the end of mash with a 1.072 OG. Used the efficiency calculator and out of 1.078 max possible. I got 94% the smell and sweetness and the color of wort was so much more. Really happy with this one and took good notes. I'll try and figure out the BIABacus to share with you all.

I am wondering if it is ok to CC my carboy in the refrigerator? I don't have any other means to. And the low temp in my area is only 55 lately.

I think you'll put a hurting on your fridge trying to cold crash regularly but it'll probably be ok once in a while. (that's why we use freezers with external temp controllers)

There really is no need to do a finer crush with biab. I imagine that your better temps had more to do with the increase in efficiency. There are probably other factors that helped as well ie; better ph,possibly better processes and maybe better measurements.
Some people are like slinkies. Not good for much, but bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.

Brewed again a couple days ago and did the exact same recipe again but only having grain milled once. Same mash temps and all. And ended up not getting an OG as high. Same
Really stoked on my first batch tho tastes great and needs another week or so to be fully carbed. And I can't believe I have no sediment. Really clean.

Hi there Reeflife,
Check out this post and not the bit about dodgy rollers. Some mills you do need to double crush on but only because they are of poor quality.
So, look at the crush after it has gone through once. If there are lots of unbroken grains, then a second run will crack most of them.
Also be careful to not jump to conclusions based on a few brews. For example, water can change from brew day to brew day. You also mentioned your gravity on the second brew was not as high, but what about your volumes?
Finally, single measurements on single brews can't really be given much weight in home brewing. For a start, the volumes we are dealing with are very small and the instruments and procedures we use to take measurements are relatively clumsy.
Also note, that unless you weigh the grain yourself, from the same "lot" of grain and have a double-check, any kettle efficiency changes can be due to something as simple as incorrect weighing or a different batch of the same malt.
Keep taking your records and look for patterns. Definitely don't make any conclusions on a change in brewing procedure based on measurements between just two batches.
Great to hear things are going along nicely for you

I am a very precise person. And pay attention to detail. And my volumes and measurements are on point. Grain source, water source/quality measurements ,readings. I appreciate your reply. And yea three brew in in less than a month I have a lot to learn. However this forum has me feeling like people think that all beginners are all incompetent. And don't know anything. I'll take my time and attention elsewhere.
