Brewing with a Coleman Eventemp Stove

Post #1 made 13 years ago
Hi Guys,

I completed my first BIAB this weekend just gone, i made the Dr Smurtos Golden Ale which turned out great, it smells amazing in the fermenter and i ended up with 23l @ 1.056 SG, i really enjoyed the process but i'm sure i made a heap of mistakes as it was my first ever brew that wasn't a Kit.

The only problem i had was that my stovetop was barely up to the job of keeping 15L of water up to temperature so next time I thought about using my Coleman Eventemp to brew outdoors.

The stove has 3 Burners, 2 x 11,500 BTU and 1 x 5000 BTU but the size of the stove and the pot i use, i am pretty confident that i could get all 3 going at once giving me an effective output of 28,000 BTU, does this sound OK to brew with?

alimac23,

Does your Eventemp have the screw on propane canisters? While you should be able to get to a boil, Im not sure if you'll get to 28,000 with all 3 burners going. Also, with all three burners running, I think you will go through more than 1 or even two canisters for 1 brew.

There are "Heat Sticks" out there that you could use to assist your stove top boil nicely. These are 120v heating elements that you put into your pot. Google it and you will find lots of plans for do-it-yourself and some commercial varieties.

Hi Trout,

It sure does have the screw on canisters but also a hose that can connect to a regular 9kg gas bottle so burning through the gas isn't much of a concern, I might try bringing 19l of water up to the boil on it and see how it goes performance wise.

Then I say give it a shot.

You can always move back to the stove if the Coleman isn't cutting it!
