Got a metre and a half of muslin today. Could I just loosely clip it to the sides of the pan rather than faff about with making a bag?

I may not have been clear enough, but that is exactly what I was referring to back in post #13.

I should also have said using voile (not muslin). Muslin can be problematic (reports of arsenic etc).
Have a search for muslin and see what you find
