Does anyone know of a good chart for substituting one malt for another.I keep a fair collection of specialty malts on hand as I am at least an hour from a LHBS,however I routinely bypass an interesting recipe because I don't have a particular grain.I also am quite sure that I have overlaps between some cara type malts and crystal types,ie: I think honey malt is a very close sub for melanoidan(or so I think I read)yet I have each on hand..
Thanks lylo

+1 on this Lylo. And yes, I've also read somewhere on the web that Honey Malt is a proprietary name for melanoidan.

1:Base grain,2 row,6 row etc.

This is not a substitution chart but it makes reading for like attributes easy.

Thanks Bob,I have that.I found it hard with my limited attention span to,read the attributes of 1 grain and 15 grains later I find one that is similar to it but I have to go back to reread until I find the match.I'm sure there must be something out there."Malt for Dummies" maybe?Hmmmm
