Langco Urn

Post #1 made 16 years ago
I scored this in a workshop equipment rationalisation effort today, a Langco UASSC/4 20L/ 4gal Electric Urn.

Its been sitting around our shed gathering dust for about 10- 20 years, probably spent most of its life in a public service tea room. Problems:
1) Sight gauge is buggered. No biggie, will block it up if need be.
2) It is a bit manky, again no problem, some citric acid should shift all that:

The lid looks all rusty in that shot, there is only some surface corrosion and nowhere as bad as the pic looks. The lid of my trusty stockpot fits fairly well anyway.

3) Tap seems OK, but I'll just replace it if need be, there seems to be some local spares suppliers. If not, I can knock something up, adapt a Birko or something.

So, 10A, 2400W, 20L- sounds fine in my books!

The electrical test & tag lad just happened to be doing the rounds today, I only decided it should be retired after he's tested it. ;)

So, anyone for Electric MiniBIAB? Time for yet another damn forum hey PP??!!

Ta Brad, have been eyeing this one off for a little while now and seeing as today was another of the dreaded 'purge' days, I leapt at the opportunity to 're- home' it. No one batted an eyelid!

BTW, 'life' above means 'working life', I know it has spent well over a decade just idle, but reckon it made just a few cups of tea in its time! The scale is a few mm thick, but coming off with ease.

sweet find Ralph , I just joined the local brew club and at their meeting they did about an hour talk on converting a keggel to electric using a hot water heater .The member giving the lesson had made a really nice one. might give it a go :)

Great score Ralph. BIAB with an electric urn is so easy-peasy.

Real story why I use an urn - my first BIAB was a stovetop job and there was so much condensation inside the house that I knew I needed something else. An electric urn was the answer and I have never looked back.

No BB, I'll never surrender!!! It is just for heating my stove- top sparge water! ;)

Seriously, with this urn I'll be trying to replicate what I consider have been major successes in stove- top BIAB, this weekend looks quite promising. :)
