Hi guys,
I bottled my first BIAB today and batch primed with Dextrose. So I used the BIABacus which said use 2.7g per 500ml bottle (2.5Vol). which I worked out to be 24.3g as my batch size is one UK Gallon (9 bottles) so 9x2.7=24.3g. Ok.
So just out of curiosity I had a look on the northern brewer priming calculator (after I had bottled) and it suggests less than half of that 5.44g.
Also I only managed 8.5 bottles as I had a little trouble with my syphon.
I Feer I'v made a huge mistake somewhere, do I need to abandon my brew before explosions start happening?
Please reply asap, Im scared!
Cheers!
Balli.

Balli1990, Remember to Chill the Bottles to 10-15C before opening them to help avoid "Gushers"

HELP! Have I over primed my bottes? will they explode?

You can always loosen the caps for 4 or 5 days then recap to allow release of excess co2

Panic over Balli
It's also possible that your beer will be less carbed than you expect using those calculators. It has been mentioned on here previously that they may not be that accurate. I would be interested to know if this is the case for you.

balli1990,
Just to be sure. I have put a case of "questionable" beer in a large garbage bag to prevent a big clean up "just in case"? It never happened but the beer was still a gusher. Chill before using is good advice! So is, "open outside" or "over a sink" until you know what's "up"???

Thank you for the replies guys I feel rather
Looking at the northern brewer calculator it suggests (28.75g) more than what I primed so I think it will be fine.
Using swing top's so I cant loosen the tops like PET unfortunately.
Ill definitely chill before opening though one or two of my bottles are a little full Im not to handy even with an auto syphon.
I like the bin bag idea I think I will employ this as im lazy and dont want to have to deal with an unlikely beer explosion.
Thank you all

Just a quick question
What would you guys advise is the correct amount of head room for glass bottles?
Is it even that important? Or is there more danger of bombs/gushers when they are too full?
Cheers

balli1990,
I am not sure why we leave a inch of space headroom? But I leave the exact amount using a bottling wand.

Bob, the headspace is IMPORTANT.
The beer volume increases as the temperature increases, so the headspace decreases, and the Bottle pressure increases.
If the Bottle has little/none headspace, the bottles becomce "Beer Bombs" and the temperatures increase.
The space from those spring bottling wands is the best headspace!!
I have made Beer bombs with less than 0.50"/12mm headspace!!!

Thanks for the reply's everyone. Now I know how important head room is ill have to be more careful.
Those bottling Wands look great, much easier than clamping tubing closed to stop the flow.
Cant find the exact brand you have provided a link to there Bob (Im in the UK) So I guess this would be adequate?

Although it has a led valve! I thought led made people sick?
Cheers.
