Mally's and Admans are in the brew fridge at 12c Mine will be posted to Mally and Yetti sometime this week. (Mally you'll get your bottle tube back ) Hopefully Wednesday .
What's the plan for tasting ? same day for bottle 1 then + 4-6 weeks for bottle 2 ?
Have a read of this and get practising.

Sounds like it is all coming together nicely.
The tasting beer link was useful too. Especially the fist pump after burping!

I spent lots of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I squandered
I've stopped drinking, but only when I'm asleep
I ONCE gave up women and alcohol - it was the worst 20 minutes of my life

Mally and Yettiman, the beer is on the way!
I reused the tube used by Mally and packed the other in a box. The box was £3 less to post! Something to do with the length of the tube.
I know it's too late for Mally but hopefully it can save everyone else some cash.

GOOD you got the best of the batch Mally, some of the others looked dodgy but I think its where the condensation has washed yeast spores onto other parts of the slant. Don't worry though as I top cropped and have a sample to re slant with.mally wrote:Oh... and the slant seemed good too.

Good news Yettiman.
Once all are secured we just need to decide on a date for test 1. I am guessing another couple of weeks for all to settle?
I had a few of mine yesterday, and it has changed slightly since a few weeks ago.
Flavours are more muted and softened, less of a liquorice taste but still good (to me anyway).

Sorry I took so long lads, I was determined not to be last to post, but things got in the way.
I meant to put a copy of my BIABacus file in, but forgot.
Do we need to swap them ahead of the tasting?

No worries Yettiman, nobody put time constraints on the brew swap
However,
Did you change your BIABacus from the one that was posted around?
Again, no problem if you did, I just thought we were all doing the same recipe (same BIABacus).

I now almost have a full set of beers, just need some from a brewer called Wychwood and I'm set!
All bottles in my beer fridge at a proper cellar temperature of 11C. I reckon a couple of weeks to properly settle and then the tasting can begin.

Didn't change it much, just to modify it for my equipment. Plus the yeast
The rest is as the original sheet..
Might pop one open this week end just to try one out.
If I can work out how to post a piccy I will upload a photo

I too have a full complement of beers now (including the crap professional one)!
..... Actually, just thinking about it. If I do a taste test of all the beers including Wychwood's that almost 5 pints
Not only will I be pishhed, I am not sure how good my taste buds will be near the end.
Do you pour all 5 and sip each one after the other... or shotgun the whole lot as quickly as possible

My plan is to pour all 5 and number the glasses so that I know which is which. I will then sample each, as will my chief taster (Mrs Adman). She will do a blind tasting of all but the commercial (she needs to know what we were aiming for!) I will then note the feedback from both of us and post some sort of review. This may not be immediately afterwards...see below.
I will then drink the remaining beer and doze off on the sofa.

I might taste mine one at a time over a few nights along side the real thing, I'll try and take some proper tasting notes so as to do each one justice. The only thing with this method is that it will be harder to decide which is the best brew. But then again when did this turn into a competition
Might have to practice on my own brew first.

I shall open all five (including the commercial and sample each in a blind tasting.
I'll drink the rest of the bottles over the next couple of nights, I know it might lose a bit of carbonation but If I try to taste over multiple nights my comparisons will be off. And if if try to finish all the bottles in one night, I'll be comatosed for a week.

Hey guys, it's been nearly 2 weeks since any updates on here.
Does anybody think they still need more conditioning time?
Just wondered if we were getting close to "the tasting day"!

What temperature are you guys serving at ? With it being a Ruby ale I would have thought 12/13c would be right. I had a sneaky bottle of mine Thursday and it was at 11.5c and was too cold. (and under carbed ) I'm going to up my fridge temp ready for later.

I did my tasting last night (with results to follow).
11C was too cold. As they warmed up they improved. I will say that mine is seriously under carbed, Yettimans was spot on for carbonation. They were all a bit hazy.
I'm going to reprime my second bottle as the rest of my brew in the corny is carbonated perfectly and a lot better than the bottles! Taste wise they are the same, it really does show the difference proper carbination and conditioning makes.
