Despite my positive expierience with filling the wort into the fermenter after boil is finished, i´m going to try this cube no-chill method. The storage factor seems very interesting to me. When the wort is coold in the cube, is it an accuarte aerating to let it splash into the fermenterbucket? Unti...

Hi Jube, i do this the same way. Turn off heat, let it cool a bit to minimize turbulence and then whirpool. After whirpool i wait some minutes to drop the trub which will accumulate in the middle of the kettle due to the whirpooleffect. The transfer the still hot wort to my fermentor. Works fine, th...

Was a little busy building a hopefully better version. The system shown before did work, but it was to complicated, especially the cage to hold the bag and cleaning the stirrer. I tested this build on a little 20L kettle while running my bigger non-BIAB system for a while. I was satisfied with this ...

I hope you aren't letting the tech side of things get too out of control though :). Guess i wont. That was just part of my old system and i wanted to be able to use it, no use for things getting dusty  To get back to the efficieny "problem" - i should really make some more batches with a con...

DS18B20_TemosensorUSB.JPG Yeah, next batch is going to be Tempcontrolled again  Best is: didnt had to solder it, thats was a big offence last time with nothing but the small DS18B20 and a RJ11 cable. (this was nearly ready to use, just the luster terminal connected with the right cable stri...

Wow, i got a 80,4% EIK and 76% EIF - about 11L with 1.052 OG from 2,5kg grains  Very nice brewday, looking forward to my renewed temperaturecontrol. My first BIAB batch, a smoked Ale, turned out good. Guess the stirring got me some more % efficiency. I love BIAB  Chilling over night, t...

Here we go, some more pictures of my stirrer: IMG_0203.JPG IMG_0201.JPG IMG_0202.JPG This is the power supply for the motor: IMG_0200.JPG Im going to make a batch today using the stirrer but not the automated temperaturecontrol - my sensor is broken. Getting a new one from China...in some weeks i gu...

Excellent stuff, this is what I'm trying to build and the wiper motor really ticks the box! I hadn't thought of using one of them. If I may I ask a few questions? What are you using as a power supply for the motor? The current draw must be considerable so most 12V power sources would be inadequate....

Here is a list of some that should work. Fresh produced would work better. (including some Beglian Beers aswell) Untergärig Bayreuther Aktienbrauerei Zwick'l Kellerbier Gemünder Brauerei (Eifel) Eifeler Landbier Haake Beck Kräusen Hachenburger Urtrüb Hacker-Pschorr Kellerbier Loscher Münchsteinacher...

If the Screw is not Stainless steel, it will corrode, and add rust and metal Salts to the wort. This corroded screw on the picture is not in contact with the wort, but i will replace it. Screws used in the cage are stainless steel. Cage is aluminium, screws stainless steel. Easy to work with and ch...

Automated eBIAB System

So i had some time to build the cage to hold the bag at the egdes of the kettle: cage_for_bag.jpg Here the inside with the motorized stirrer: motorized_stirrer_insidekettle.jpg motor_stirrer_view.jpg Control is based on USB via my small Netbook. Not yet tested with the BIAB, but well as a 3-tier sys...

Yes, thats it :) By the way you "KNOW" your FG by lettig a small sample ferment faster at higher temperature. Back to topic: Made my new bag and i´m just brewing with it. After removing the bag from the kettle, i got 18L with about 10.2 °P (thats 1.041) - would be a 73% efficiency into boil. Thats b...

Nice one  But your recipe, as PP mentioned, is not fitting the "German Pilsener" style. 100% Pilsener Malt, maybe some Caramalt, hops are wrong at all. Saaz would fit for the czech style. Yeast is not the best one if u want a dry Pilsener, for a malty one its ok. And your fermentationtempera...

It sounds like you mean krausening or using speise to prime bottles (for carbonation) Exactly NOT using "Speise" for carbonation. "Speise" is a part of the wort not added to the fermentation, what is "krausening"? (thats not a german word). Otherwise can you offer a better alternative to translate?...

I only Step/ramp mash, since I use a lot of oats or corn/rice in my recipes. In most classic German-Hefeweizen Beers is a need of a "ferulic acid" -mashing step. And i have to disagree with: Each step is timed from 10 minute to 35 minutes, so there is not a lot of stirring. If u want a really dry b...

If, for some reason, you want to know your fermentor efficiency as well then just tip what trub is left in the kettle after transferring to the fermentor into some sort of measuring jug. Your end of boil volume X 0.96 - kettle trub will be your volume into fermentor. Put that number in as your volu...

Hi, that is something i thought of, too. I already got a motorized stirrer for my kettle including a PC-USB-based automatic for the temperaturcontrol. I used that for my old 3-kettle brewingsystem i cant use anymore. I´d just need to build something to hold the bag straight in the kettle. And i need...

the numbers you used to get of 80 and 87% on your old brews will have definitely come from a 'correct' calculator not the German one Sure, i converted my old numbers with your linked calculator ;) Keep it Simple On your next brew, remember to not only measure your volume into fermentor but also you...

Thank you a lot  I guess im going to find out, why everyone (!) is using this (maybe just old?) method of calculating efficiency in Germany. Anyway, with my old system i got numbers between 80% and 87% based on "Brew House Efficiency - An all inclusive measure of efficiency, which counts all...

The calculator you linked gives me 66%, right. (not all malts i used in this batch are available in the list - German Wheat Malt smoked with oak wood ( this ) for example - i used the normal "wheat malt", guess thats ok, i used a belgian "peated" malt, too) I guess the difference is "the individual ...
