Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. I brewed this nearly a year and a half back and from what I remember and some bad notes (my notes have since dramatically improved) that I've found, it turned out rather nice, not really as dark as I would have wanted, but that is just inexperience, and a little un...

Cheers Joshua, I try to condition at a temp a few degrees higher than fermenting temp (only been one occasion when i haven't been able to) and so far only brewed ales so conditioning around 26°C. Got the bottled beers in my fermenting fridge with the temp set at 30°C at the moment and will leave em ...

Hi All, Interesting topic  I've been using the Biabacus priming calc since making the move to all grain BIAB brewing and have found most, not all, to be a little flatter than I expected. I bottled my last brew yesterday evening and used the temp priming calculator V2, in your post PP, to comp...

And Of Course John Palmer is wrong as he is in http://www.howtobrew.com/section1/chapter4-1.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; JMHO Joshua, in the article you have hyper linked there is no mention that sodium metabisulfite or as the article states 'potassium metabisulfite' neutrali...

I haven't been able to find any evidence that states sodium metabisulfate removes chlorine, but it definitely removes chlorimine. I have sent an email to a friend of mine who is a chemical engineer at a water treatment plant in Adelaide who will be able to confirm for me.

Cheers,

Erl

Hi Guys, Campden tablets will not remove chlorine from water only chloramine. To remove chlorine either run it through a activated carbon filter or boil it. I use sodium thiosulphate at work to neutralise chlorine in water supplies before discharging to the environment, however I'm not sure if this ...

Hey Woodchip, I'm up here in Auckland :) Only been BIABing since last July but I've got 7 under my belt and love the process. Iv'e only used Gladfield malt once, it was the ale malt, but it was a good brew so wouldn't have a problem recommending that grain. Let us know how you get on with your first...

Thanks everyone for the really helpful points  1. During the boil, skim off the "hot break" that forms just after the hard boil starts. 2. Use a fining agent such as whirl-floc, or Irish Moss near the end of your boil. Irish Moss at 10 min left I think, and Whirl-floc at 5 min left I think. ...

Cheers chaps! :P I'm going to give squeezing a go on the batch I've got on at the moment and see how it goes. I don't use a hop sack for dry hoping. I just dump the hops into the primary and let them sink or float. If I am reusing the yeast cake I use a secondary and dry hop there. I can't seem to g...

Dry hopping - does anyone squeeze?

Just wondering if anyone squeezes the hop sock after dry hopping? I just dry hopped with just over 200g of hops and lost a fair bit of wort, so was contemplating squeezing the next time  just a bit concerned about infection and creating a cloudy beer? Any thoughts or experiences :?: Cheers, Erl

Why does using hop sock affect grain quantity in BIABacus?

I just finished my 3rd BIAB and so am still getting used to the BIABacus. I think its an amazing tool and really appreciate all the hard work that must have gone into it! The more I use it I'm sure the more questions I'll have and hopefully there'll be someone on here to give me some answers or poin...

BIAB #2 - ESB

Well, going to get my 2nd BIAB on this weekend. I've not picked up any of the ingredients yet so thought I'd post the recipe and see if anyone had any comments or pointers for me? I've based it on an extract brew I did quite a while ago which turned out rather nice. BIABacus Pre-Release 1.3...

Thanks for the pointers PP, much appreciated! I'll look into these for the next brew day, hopefully a couple of weeks time. Sorry it's taken so long to reply, flat tack at work at the mo then home to a toddler and a pregnant wife, don't get too much time to myself  As for the rolling boil, wel...

Well, what a day! Kicked off just after 7 am. Got the water up to strike temp, just over 70 degrees C, then added the grain. Checked the temp and it was 68. In the past the extract brews i've done have lost about 3-4 degrees but this time only 2. I was a bit concerned as I thought it might be a touc...

Thanks guys,

I've just started this brew  I'll definitely mash for 90 minutes thanks for the advice!

It's going to be an interesting day, I'm excited and nervous at the same time :argh:

Cheers

First BIAB!

Hi, this is going to be my first BIAB so I thought I'd better post it to see if anyone could see any glaring mistakes? I've put the recipe together myself using extract experience and looking at other recipes. BIABacus Pre-Release 1.3 RECIPE REPORT BIAB Recipe Designer, Ca...

Hi,
