I never used to have problems when I was raising the temp to boil but now I can't raise the temp without stirring it every few minutes. I would love to find a way around this!

Does anyone have any other ideas on how to stop the elements burning as I get it on every brew unless I stir constantly all the way through mash and up to the boil. Otherwise I end up with the same burnt elements. It would be nice to pin point something as when I first started brewing I didn't have ...

I have a 40l crown boiler and I managed 1.082 with around 8kg (something like that). My efficiency dropped to 64 I think. That is into fermentor efficiency.

You get unreal eff. What is your set up. I usually get 79% eff on 1.050 brews, I would love to know your secret!

A little feedback on my FWH Nelson Saving pale ale, the recipe was designed to have around 30 ibu before I changed it to FWH. Ok ill give that a go. Ill add it after mashout. My boiler ramps up slow enough so it shouldn't be a problem.

I will start to mash in around 1.5 hours. Ill add the fwh while i ramp up for mashout.

I will do that, I will just pull the bag to the side and drop them in, bring it up to mashout then ill pull the bag out. see how that goes.

Im going to try today. Should i still do a mashout? It generally takes me about 25mins to get to a boil from there. If not maybe i should just do a 90min mash at 67 and see how i go.

What are you thoughts?

I might give this theory a go and see if it improves my flavour a bit. I can't see the aroma getting any better but all the talk of the hops steeping before the boil and the oils going into solution better does make sense. Next brew i do i will try it and see how it turns out!

Brewbrite dosage is 3-4g per 23l so i have just assumed that this would be the volume in the kettle at the point of adding it. I have around 25l when i add it so i would be under doing it. Maybe i should look at increasing it by 1g and see if it makes much of a difference.

Very interesting information there PP, i will take a few things away from that. I will try my brewbrite at 10mins before flameout and i will whirlpool 20mins after flameout and i will only stir it gently. Everytime i have whirlpooled i have tried to make a tornado in the wort which could be causing ...

Whirlpooling in a crown 40l urn

Just wondering if anyone has any tried successful methods to whirlpool in these urns. I have tried doing it at different times without success. I recently changed over to brewbrite to see if it makes a difference but its still the same. I get no cone in the bottom and it just looks like a murky mess...

You could try your LHB shop and if you no luck there, try some camping stores. They are in Bcf and stratco and bunnings up here in brissy. You could also purchase a FWK off craftbrewer or another store that sells them and keep using it for your cube.

I'm no expert on this but I buy FWK's from craftbrewer and they seem to have a best before date of 2yrs so I would take a guess at it being close to that time period.
