Re: Raison D'Saison

Question: The original recipe called for 1.056 OG and actual was 1.070 (did a pretty fine crush) my understanding is that I should have added 5.0L at into fermenter at beginning of fermentation (as per calcs derived from Section N) to bring the SG down, would love if someone could confirm this appr...

Re: Raison D'Saison

In Section C: The Fermentable Bill, add to I'd Like to Try O.G. 1.056. The Fermentable Bill quantities should adjust and in Section O: At Pitching Expected Original Gravity: should change from 1.070 to 1.056. I filled out the same recipe for my next brew and this seems to work. Cheers! Thanks rober...

Raison D'Saison

G'day, I'm almost at end of this brew (from Brewing Classic Styles p207), have just dry hopped. Question: The original recipe called for 1.056 OG and actual was 1.070 (did a pretty fine crush) my understanding is that I should have added 5.0L at into fermenter at beginning of fermentation (as per ca...

Well, I just gave it a try (yes, it is 1pm, so what?) and it tastes fantastic despite bottled only 3 weeks ago. There is however something wrong with the carbonation (I think). When pouring, there is an obvious coarse carbonation and it looks like pouring coke in the glass (colour is quite close ac...

the mistakes i have made (that i actually know i've made). 1. leaving the lid on during the boil. weaker beer but still tasted OK. 2. weighed grain with scales on oz instead of grams. managed to catch before the boil and back calculate. 3. didn't seal the secondary fermenter, resulting in paint thin...

Hi vonBobo, I believe you're right in using less. Not sure about the calculation. If you have downloaded Biabacus use Section D. The Hop Bill. Put your original numbers into the left hand side of the section, then under Substitutions put in the numbers for actual AA% etc. I think you need to have al...

Hi bozkm, I haven't tried the recipe but it looks pretty simple and well into'd regarding tweaks. My personal taste would be the raspberry porter :) Good luck with it all, be sure to post results, or questions along the way.

joshua, thanks for looking at the recipe.
i love your HO, I will change it to 90 minutes right now. i usually use a 90 minute mash, but it seems i've copied the recipe mash time :idiot: .
thanks again mate :drink:

American Amber Ale

This is an American Amber from p137 Brewing Classic Styles that I'd like to try and would appreciate if anybody could have a quick check to see if there are any glaring mistakes. Have also attached spreadsheet in Excel (.xls) and Open Office Calc (.ods) format. Thanks in advance :drink: [center] BIA...

g'day leighaus, i haven't dry hopped but i did bump up the flavour and aroma hop additions for a good result (only took 5 brews to get there!). i think it's pretty important to get the vigorous boil with the pilsner grains as well. good luck with the brewing mate :ugeek: my daughters choice of emoti...

Thanks for the help Major and Pistol, this is the first of 3 LCBA batches, all a bit different through process or substitution of hops (ran out of saaz). This one has a slight chemical taste ... I gave it 90 min boil but may not have been vigorous enough. Not good enough to share but not bad enough ...

The final solution .... olive pickling drums, 220L, $20 a piece from Bruce at Waikiki south of Perth, found them on Gumtree. Can't show you photos of the kids inside the drums cleaning (playing with soap and water) out the remnant olives and brine solution, but they had lots of fun! I reckon this dr...

Thanks alot for responses major :salute: and PP :peace:
I have adjusted the attached BIABacus Desired VIF to give the 25L VAW, and notes on the side now reflect adjusted hops additions.
Hope the BIABacus is coming along PP, it's a great tool.
